Cotto’s win last was only the start to a great boxing weekend.
A massive congratulations to Felix “Tito” Trinidad member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
Felix Trinidad jr better known to fans and countrymen simply as “Tito” was a two handed power punching terror with and absolutely lethal left hook. He left an indelible mark on professional boxing all throughout the 90’s and early ’00s carving out a record of 42 wins with 35 of those wins inside the distance against only 3 losses.
His notable career achievements include a 7 year long IBF welterweight title reign with 15 defenses 12 of those defenses by stoppage, At welterweight he also won the WBC and Lineal Welterweight titles. He was the unified WBA and IBF superwelterweight/jr. middleweight champion and his final world title was the WBA middleweight title his third weight class overall.
But more so than any in ring accomplishment Tito’s greatest feat was his connection to his people, to Puerto Rico . A true People’s Champ was the unabashed, unashamed and undisputed Champion of Puerto Rico first and foremost.
Tito was, is, and forever will be an Icon of Puerto Rican sports.
